چکیده
Abstract This article examines verbal sequences in Arabic dialects which can correspond either to complex sentences with embedded clauses or predicates reduction of one the other verb. The first part is devoted where completives and subordinates purpose consequence are introduced by a marker that generally specific, but sometimes polyfunctional. second explores embedding without subordinator (with distinct identical subjects), as well cases predicates, V 1 (cases auxiliarization pragmatization), 2 (rare serial verbs).

Temporal Propositions as Vague Predicates
The idea that temporal propositions are vague predicates is examined with attention to the nature of the objects over which the predicates range. These objects should not, it is argued, be identified once and for all with points or intervals in the real line (or any fixed linear order). Context has an important role to play not only in sidestepping the Sorites paradox (Gaifman 2002) but also in...
متن کاملForgetting complex propositions
This paper uses possible-world semantics to model the changes that may occur in an agent’s knowledge as she loses information. This builds on previous work in which the agent may forget the truth-value of an atomic proposition, to a more general case where she may forget the truth-value of a propositional formula. The generalization poses some challenges, since in order to forget whether a comp...
متن کاملConstructing Spanish Complex Predicates
Abeillé and Godard (2007) describe a variety of Spanish whose complex predicates differ structurally from the more familiar flat VP type of complex predicate common to other varieties of Spanish and Romance. I present a verb cluster analysis of this variety which both captures these structural differences, and at the same time preserves those features that are common across both construction ty...
متن کاملComplex Predicates in Arrernte
Using the example of Murrinh-Patha, Seiss (2011) illustrates how Australian Aboriginal languages can shed light on the morphology-syntax interface: one aspect of their polysynthetic nature is that information often encoded in phrases and clauses in other languages is instead found in a single morphological word. In this paper, we look at another instance, the Australian Aboriginal language Arre...
متن کاملComplex Predicates in Focus
Persian and Turkish exhibit a number of striking similarities: (a) many verbal concepts are expressed by complex predicates (CPr), consisting of a non-verbal (NV) element and a light verb (LV) (Foli et al 2005, Megerdoomian 2002, Kornfilt 2003), (b) both languages exhibit scrambling, and (c) they both mark direct objects for specificity (Karimi 2005, Enc 1991). However, there are also some impo...
